Tips for traveling with your dog!

Now that warmer weather is here, you may be excited about traveling to see family and friends. Of course you want the entire family to travel with you and that mean Fido too! Traveling with your dog can be fun, but make it effortless when you give these tips a try

• Local Tag: If you plan to travel far from home, consider having an extra set of ID tags made with a local phone number – such as your local family, friends or even hotel. That way if your pet happens to get loose, his or her rescuer will know that someone is searching for them nearby.  Most pet stores have a do it yourself machine and at under $10 a tag, it is worth it!
• Collar, Leash & Poop bags: Remember that taking Fido out of the car for potty breaks must include his collar being secured and him being leashed. Be prepared for them to sniff FOREVER before doing his business. Make sure to clean up after Fido! 
• Trail Run: Take a trip around the block to see how he reacts. If your pooch gets car sick like one of mine, then reach out to the vet prior to going on the big trip!
• Buckle up: Like people, pets are safest when restrained in the car – many 

Homemade Pumpkin Dog Biscuits #Recipe

Have extra pumpkin from baking all those pies?  Why  not treat  pamper the pooches and make them homemade dog biscuits!

These are so frugal, easy to make and only four ingredients!

Ingredients:

• 1 egg
• 2/3 cup pure canned pumpkin
• ½ tsp cinnamon
• 1 ½ cups all purpose flour (you can use whole wheat flour as well, but some dogs have wheat allergies)

Directions:

1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Cover a cookie sheet with parchment paper.
2. Combine the egg, pumpkin and cinnamon in a bowl.
     
   
3. Slowly add the flour until the dough is stiff. You might need to use your hands
4. Wet counter top and cover it with wax paper (makes for easy clean-up) and cover wax paper with flour or just place flour on your counter top.
5.  Roll the dough with a rolling pin until it is about ¼ thick.
     
   
6. Use dog bone cookie cutter  to cut out the treats.
7.  Place cookies on the parchment paper lined cookie sheet and bake cookies for 40 minutes until crunchy and hard.

Your house will smell wonderful and  your pooches will anxiously await for them to cool down!

• Seat Covers/Blankets: Protect your seats from muddy paws, drool, dog hair and accidents! It is also good to bring some extra towels as well!
• Vaccination Records: Keep a copy of all vaccination records in your dogs travel bad. Should an emergency arise once you are on the road, you will have the important information you need.

Please remember to never ever lock your pet in your car, even for a few minutes!!!  The temperature inside your vehicle can rise almost 20º F in just 10 minutes. In 20 minutes, it can rise almost 30º F and so on as the temperatures rise.    Don't let your pet become a victim of heat exhaustion!

This weekend we decided to have a family movie night and watch "A Dog's Purpose", it was such a great film! Afterwards I wanted to pamper my own pooches, so I made them homemade dog biscuits!

1. CAPTURE THE MOMENT

The flowers are blooming, the sun is shining, and the weather is gorgeous. Take advantage by taking your dog out on a stroll snapping a photo of him enjoying nature. I personally choose a trail near water so my dog can play at the edge (or dive in if he's feeling brave enough)—it makes for great photos!

 

2. PLAY YOUR DOG'S FAVORITE GAME

Now that the sun is out, my dog and I take a weekly trip to our local dog park. This gives my dog the opportunity to interact with his friends and make new ones. One particular activity we both enjoy playing is catch. We usually take an old tennis ball, but switching out an old favorite for a new toy is always a great way to treat your pup.

 

3. PLAN A CAMPING TRIP 

A quick weekend trip in the great outdoors truly makes my dog happy. It lets him visit a new place and explore the scents that fill the air during this time of year. It also lets me enjoy some time out of the house and admire all the beauty spring has to offer. Whether it's a quick day trip, or a longer one that lasts several days, your dog will be thrilled to be outside exploring nature.
