Ths perfect way to cool off this summer at Sandcastle Waterpark! #SandcastlePGH #DiscountTickets @Sandcastlepgh #sp

Opening in July 1989, Sandcastle had transformed an old railroad yard that serviced the US Steel Homestead Works mill into a water park that provides shared fun and memory making opportunities for families and friends.  Sandcastle is set along the Monongahela River and offers 15 waterslide attractions, the Mon Tsunami Wave Pool, scenic Mushroom Pool, the relaxing lazy river, and two children’s area – all located on a boardwalk that is sure to make you feel like you are on vacation. For thrill seekers and mild riders, there are plenty of tube slides and body slides for your liking!
This was our second visit to Sandcastle!   We have family in PA, so the grandparents drove over to Pittsburgh to surprise the kids and spend the day playing and sliding with the kids at Sandcastle! It was so much fun to watch my father-in-law hit the slides with the kids!  It gave mom and dad a break at times!
Lets talk about the slides!  There is no shortage of slides at Sandcastle and the best part the wait is minimal if at all for most the slides! You have the Blue Tubaluba, it was Sandcastle’s first dual rider, enclosed slide. The blue partly translucent slides let riders experience the water thrills of misters, waterfalls, and total darkness along two 450- foot long slides before landing in a 4 foot deep pool.

Boardwalk Blasters - Strong swimmers only for this extreme action slide. Race down two 25-foot long slides to a soaking surprise ending – a 7-foot free fall into a 12-foot deep landing pool!

Cliffhangers - Riders hike up 45 steps to the start of Cliffhangers then riders glide down parallel slides and enjoy three sky ponds along the way, until the final slide into the last landing pool.-
Dragon's Den  -  Sandcastle's newest, breathtaking answer to those on a quest for maximum thrills. You'll catapult through mysterious darkness and then plummet into the mist-shrouded abyss of the dragon…only to vanish from sight! You won't believe it until you encounter it face to face. This is a double riders only slide and one of the favorites for my kids.  Towards the end of the day,  the kids were only their own, up and down the later to this slide!  They loved being able to ride it together!

Lightning Express - The Lightning Express tower is 60-feet high, featuring two double dip slide channels and one free-fall slide. Each body slide chute is 250-feet long. Brave thrill seekers will enjoy THE MONSTER, a free-fall slide, starting 85-feet above the finish, with a gradual slope glide of 25-feet, that drops to a steep 60-feet, hitting speeds up to 25 miles per hour! Each slide finishes in a 4-inch deep braking lane of water.     My daughter is fearless and of course did THE MONSTER, while my son and his grandfather did The Lightning Express!

Thunder Run - These 400-foot long tube slides are a great place to start your sliding experience at Sandcastle! Single riders begin their descent 50-feet above the Boardwalk before twisting, turning, banking, and splashing their way to a 4-foot deep landing pool.

Tubers Tower - Enjoy a thrilling tubing experience on Tubers Towers, where riders on single tubes glide down an over 400-foot long slide to a splash landing in 4-feet of water.

Need a little time to relax?  Then take a ride on the lazy river.  I swear this was the longest lazy river, I have ever been on, it was nice and relaxing and had a great view of the park and Pittsburgh.  A good way to relax and just take in the view and chat with your family and friends who are floating along with you!

If you have little ones who are not 48 inches tall, then head on over to the kiddie area!  There is a  Tad Pool or splash around at Wet Willie's Water Works. Watch them giggle and have fun on slides their size!

Make sure to check out the pool and wave pool before you leave!  I didn't hit the wave pool last year and man I missed out.  I was so much fun bobbing along and getting pushed back by the waves.  It was a nice way to relax!

If you are looking for a fun day with the family, then take a trip to Pittsburgh!  We made a weekend out of it and hit Kennywood on one day and then Sandcastle the next.   There are a few nice hotels, shopping and dinning  right outside the entrance of the park!  We had a blast and it was such an enjoyable park, the kids are already asking when they can return!

Kennywood fun for all ages + Save $10 off general admission! @Kenny_Kangaroo #Kennywood #PA

America's Favorite Traditional Amusement Park since 1898, Kennywood is now open and perfect time to visit now that most schools are out ! Kennywood continues to delight each and every guest with 31 major rides, including three wooden coasters, two steel coasters including Phantom's Revenge and Skyrocket, water rides, spinning rides, hi-speed rides for thrill seekers, Kid-sized rides for tiny daredevils, and relaxing rides for those who simply want to enjoy the splendor of a truly inviting venue.

Combining the best of the old with the best of the new, guests will find the original, 110-year- old carousel pavilion, as well as state-of-the-art attractions like Phantom's Revenge, Skyrocket, and Ghostwood Estate. The Black Widow ride features counterclockwise rotation and pendulum motions that create a variety of different sensations, depending on a rider's specific position.

We have been visiting Kennywood for a couple years now, but this is the first time the grandparents joined us as well.   They live in PA and surprised the kids by joining us at the park!   They could not pass up the discounted rates!  We normally go on Sundays and the park isn't too busy, this time we went on a Friday.  The temperatures were hot, but the lines were not long!

It is about a 2 hour drive for us, from where we are located in Ohio.  We had minimal wait times for rides, maxing out at 15 minutes!   The first ride of our visits is always the Phantom Revenge Coaster, we are always in line and one of the first ones to ride!

Majority of the rides require you to be at least 46 inches and there are a few that you must be taller than that to ride.  My son is about 48 inches, so he can ride just about all the rides he wanted!  Since he was tall enough to ride without an adult, he even just rode rides with his sister, that gave the parents and grandparents time to rest.

My father in law, hubby and 10 year old daughter decided to hit the Black Widow right away.  It was a first for all them, at first my daughter enjoyed it, but as she swung by a few times, I could see the look of fear in her eyes.  Of course she will never admit it, but I do believe she was scared.   That was a first for her, she is fearless!  Black Widow guests will experience a one of a kind perspective of Lost Kennywood! Black Widow stands 90 feet tall but will reach a height of 146 feet in full swing.  A total of 40 Riders will form a giant circle and experience the feeling of weightlessness coveted by thrill seekers.

Since it was so hot, the kids wanted to hit the water rides at the park.  In the past they only had done the Log Jammer.  On this trip the grandparents wanted to cool off as well and went on both the Log Jammer and the Raging Rapids!   You will get wet on Raging Rapids! My daughter and Mother -in-law both were soaked, but loved every minute of it!   Built on a natural, downward sloping hillside, the Raging Rapids simulates a white water raft trip. Waterfalls, geysers and even water guns from onlookers drench riders as they traverse the course down a beautiful river canyon.

It was a truly nice park for families. Younger children  can enjoy the kiddie area and get the courage to ride the bigger rides. Nestled close to the kiddie area is also a stage, so check the times for the shows!    New for this year is the 4-D theatrical Experience, Ice Age: No Time For Nuts 4-D.

This eye-popping adventure follows the manic saber-toothed squirrel Scrat on an epic odyssey in time-travel. From the Coliseum of Ancient Rome to the dance floor of Studio 54, Scrat survives everything from Excalibur to the Titanic as he chases after his beloved acorn that’s been accidentally lost in time.  It was so cute and it was a bonus to chill in AC for 9 minutes!

Another change this year was Noah’s Ark! It has been a fixture in Kennywood Park for 90 years, but this year the big blue whale is back, after 20 years in exile.

If you have small kids, the Kiddyland part of the park will make you very happy. If you are a roller coaster enthusiast, there are tons of options for you. There is something for everyone! It was a fun filled day for us Ohio peeps and nice to have an option not to far away to visit.
Want to visit?  Head on over here and  score $10.00 off of the $43.99 General gate Admission price (weekday visit Mon- Friday).   Bringing it down to $33.99!!!     Or score a Saturday-Sunday visit ticket for $37.99!    The discount expires September 5th.

A couple weeks ago we took a trip to Kennywood park in PA. It was close to a 2 hour drive for us, so not that bad! We arrived at opening and got to experience it all! It was a bit overcast that day and a Sunday, so it was not busy at all.  We had minimal wait times for rides, maxing out at 15 minutes!   The first ride of the day for my husband and daughter was the Phantom Revenge Coaster and loved it! While my son went on a couple of the classic wood coasters.

Majority of the rides require you to be at least 46 inches and there are a few that you must be taller than that to ride.  My son is just over 46 inches, so this time around he was able to ride just about all the rides he wanted!  Since he was tall enough to ride without an adult, he even just rode rides with his sister.  This gave us old folks (LOL) a time to rest.   The kids loved riding the  log ride alone and getting soaked!

Food wasn't bad. We grabbed lunch at the Parkside Cafe!  We spit a wrap, salad and mac n' cheese.  It was way too much for the three of us, as the kids were just wanting to get back out and ride.   My son begged and begged for a corn dog, so of course we obliged and he was in heaven later in the day.  Prices are comparable to eating out! There was food places and restrooms all over the place, so they were easy to find!  I would order minimal at first and then if it gets devoured get more food.  Kids have a tendency not to eat much in the heat, let alone when excitement awaits!

It was a truly nice park for families. Younger children  can enjoy the kiddie area and get the courage to ride the bigger rides. Nestled close to the kiddie area is also a stage, so check the times for the shows!  it was a pirate adventure show with swashbuckling pirates fighting each other!

If you have small kids, the Kiddyland part of the park will make you very happy. If you are a roller coaster enthusiast, there are tons of options for you. There is something for everyone! It was a fun filled day for us Ohio peeps and nice to have an option not to far away to visit
