Christmas Cereal Bars #recipe

This weekend my daughter and I watched Christmas movies and baked.   She was hoping for some rice crispie treats, but all we had was Crispex cereal in the house so we opted to try those!   The M&Ms adds a sweet chocolatey flavor to the cereal bars, while the sprinkles a festive flare.   A fun and easy treat to make with the kids!

Christmas Cereal Bars
Ingredients
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 10 ounces marshmallows (1 bag)
  • 6 cups Crispex cereal
  • 3/4 cup baking (mini)red and green M&ms
  • 2 Tablespoons Christmas sprinkles
Instructions
  1. In a large stock pot, heat the butter and marshmallows  on a medium temperature (if you have it too hot, you will scorch your pot) until melted together.  Continue to stir with a wooden spoon until melted.
  2. Stir in the Crispex cereal, half of the  sprinkles and half of the M&Ms.  Careful not to break all the cereal, while at the same time making sure everything is mixed well.
  3. Press the mixture into a parchment lined 9x13 cookie sheet.   I found it is best to spray the lined parchment paper with cooking spray.  You can also spray your hands with cooking spray to help you while you press it in the sheet.  Once the sheet is full, then sprinkle the remaining M&Ms and sprinkles.

  4. Let the bars sit for 30 minutes to harden up before cutting.
