I was so excited about these new lunchmeats, I had to try one out in a recipe! A great hot sandwich is a Monte Cristo!  A Monte Cristo is a fried ham and cheese sandwich, a variation of the French croque-monsieur. Well I am not one to deep fry the sandwich, so instead I opted for a French Toasted Ham/Cheese Sandwich version.

This recipe makes 2 sandwiches  and is kid approved in my house!

Ingredients
  • 4 slices of  bread (I used wheat)
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tablespoons of butter spread
  • 2 slices of American cheese singles
  • 6 slices of Hillshire Farm Naturals Honey Roasted Ham or Black Forest Ham
  • 1 teaspoon of powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons of raspberry preserves
Instructions
  1. Turn your electric griddle to 350 degrees and allow it to heat up.  Add about 2 tablespoons of butter spread It will dissolve while it is heating up.  This will help the sandwiches from not sticking.
  2. Whisk together 2 eggs in a bowl and deep each side of the bread in the egg.
  3. Place the dipped bread on the electric griddle and brown up both sides. (Just like you are making French toast).
  4. Next add the ham and cheese and flip the sandwich a couple times until the cheese has melted making the sandwich stick together.
The Monte Cristo is sometimes covered in powdered sugar and served with preserves.  Just sprinkle a little bit of powdered sugar on each slice and serve!
