My Percy Jackson/Project Linus Blanket Making Day #PercyHeroes #sponsored

In celebration of Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters on Blu-ray, DVD and Digital HD, Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment with UPS kicked off Project Linus’ “National Make a Blanket Day” on December 16.  Fox Home Ent has partnered with Project Linus to give back to kids this holiday season -- all inspired by the "golden fleece" theme in Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters, Fox has committed to donating up to 1,000 handmade blankets to Project Linus.    As a Fox Insider, this weekend I  hosted my own blanket making party and along with friends made 20 blankets to donate!

Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters tells the story of the magical, mythical adventures of teenager Percy Jackson — son of the Greek god Poseidon. Percy and his demigod friends embark on an epic journey into the treacherous Sea of Monsters to recover the fabled Golden Fleece, which has the power to save his world.

Fox Home Entertainment is committed to bring the powerful “Golden Fleece” from the film to life with a blanket-making events around the US at bloggers homes as well as at the Georgia Aquarium on Dec. 16. The event also includes a partnership with UPS to help deliver the blankets to Project Linus Chapters across the country. The Atlanta event and FHEInsider events serve as the kick-off for Project Linus’ annual “Make a Blanket Day” on Saturday, February 15. Project Linus is a non-profit organization that provides homemade blankets to children in need.

Today I hosted our "Blanket Making Party"!  Fox provided me with blanket-making kits to make 20 blankets(fleece/patches/how-to guide)  and then UPS will pick-up of the finished blankets to get to the organization to distribute to the kids!  I invited some friends and their kids to come over and help with this project.   It was a great way to show the kids how we can all come together and help those in need.   Not only did the kids and my girlfriends get in on the action, but my hubby joined in too!  He helped make two blankets and helped trim off the rough edges of the fabric before taking the kids up stairs for coloring and Twister!

The blanket making was surprisingly easy and in less than 2 hours we had 20 blankets done!   We took fleece that was 1.5 yards in length and trimmed off the selvage edges and squared up the fabric.   Next up was to fringe the blanket 2"-3" long and about 1" thick.  The longer you make the fringe, the less of blanket you have to cover with.   So we stuck with about 2" long strips.   After the strips were cut we sewed on a Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters tag.   It was that easy!  Now the blankets are boxed up and ready to mail to Project Linus!

You can help too, just check out Project Linus: http://www.projectlinus.org/

Like a good movie, during the holidays at UPS, they do not deliver boxes – they deliver emotional connections. More than just a box, UPS delivers a gateway to a new adventure.
