@CAWineClub Review – Great holiday gift! + #giveaway

The Holidays  are right around the corner so that means shopping for gifts and attending holiday parties!   Do you want to get a great gift for a wine or food lover, then look no further than California Wine Club. The California Wine Club is a great way to deliver the gift of wine to someone you care about this holiday season.  Heck even sign up for yourself and have a unique wine to take to parties, give as gifts, etc. The membership club sends members hand selected wines each month selected by experts who take the guess work out of selecting great wines for the holidays, and for all year round.   There are a variety of membership options, you can even just chose one month!

This month  The California Wine Club sent me two bottles from the Daniel Gehrs wine collection. I received a bottle of Chenin Blanc and Merlot.   I had never tried a Chenin Blanc before, so getting to sample a new wine was a great pleasure!  The Chenin Blanc was a nice sweet white wine with hints of honey and pears. A little more about the Chenin Blanc is below:

Daniel Gehrs Wines 2011 Santa Barbara County,   White Hills Vineyard Chenin Blanc

Aromas of plums, wild flowers and clover honey lead to a fruity palate of ripe Barlett pear and melon flavors. The finish is crisp and zesty.

Silver Medal, Orange County Fair
Silver Medal, Events Center Commercial Wine Comp.
Bronze Medal, California State Fair

Impressive Pedigree: The 2010 earned a “Top 10 White Wine” Award from the World Wine Championship Competition.

Drink now or hold up to 5 years.

The Merlot had a nice medium bodied  feel  and was  on the dry side. The finish is smooth, and the flavor profile includes fruity, berry notes. It paired great with a bowl of Alfredo pasta!  More on the Merlot:

Dustiness, tanned leather and earthiness add complexity to the lush signature black cherry fruit. Tannins are smooth, lending backbone and a long finish.

Silver Medal, San Diego Int’l. Wine Comp.
