I am honored to be one of six 2012 T-fal Healthy Summer Challenge bloggers! With summer upon us, it seems that everyone is looking for tips on how to stay healthy, nutritious and fit this summer. So this summer I will be sharing a resolutions, tips or healthy lifestyle changes!
TIP #1 for T-fal’s Healthy Summer Challenge, get up and get walking!
Did you know you should walk at least 10,000 steps a day to improve your their health. By adding a few steps a day into your daily work routine you can increase the amount of physical activity you get each day as well as improve your overall health and well-being. I picked up a pedometer recently and was shocked that I was not getting my 10,000 steps in each day. Now I take my walking shoes with me to work and get out and walk 3 miles every day on my lunch break! Not only does the increased walking make me feel better, but my pants are all super loose! A double win!
TIP #2 for T-fal’s Healthy Summer Challenge, put away the sweets and pick up some fruit!
Did you know that you should eat at least 2 cups of fruit on a daily basis? I know with the temperatures rising, sometime we look to ice-cream and popsicles too cool us off on a hot day. Why not ditch the ice-cream and have some frozen red grapes instead! They are perfect on hot summer days, and are easy to prepare and "make". Simply wash and pat dry the grapes, then place into a freezer bag. Allow them to freeze for a few hours, take out as many as you want to enjoy. They do not get "rock hard" at all, instead you get a delightful frozen treat that is better for you and helps to meet you daily fruit requirement!New tip:
TIP #4 for T-fal’s Healthy Summer Challenge, never go shopping on an empty stomach. Get healthy with grocery shopping
Park as far as way as you can from the store! What is the point of parking close if you are in the mindset to get healthy. The extra steps will do you some good! Make your list prior to heading out, worst thing ever is to walk up and down the aisles with no clue what you need - that is how all the unwanted junk gets into the house! What foods should go on the list? Vegetables and fruits should make up the largest part of your grocery list. I love stopping by the Amish or Farmer market before hitting the store to see what product I still need!
Choose a variety of green, orange, red, purple, and yellow fruits and vegetables that everyone in your family will enjoy. We need five or more servings every day. I love to buy a ton of fruit and cut it up for fruit salads, a toss it onto bed of lettuce with a poppyseed dressing, etc.
Other items to consider when shopping:

- Fat-free or low-fat milk, yogurt, cheese, and cottage cheese
- Egg whites/egg substitutes
- Whole-wheat sandwich breads, bagels, pita bread, English muffins
- Soft corn tortillas, low-fat flour tortillas
- White-meat chicken or turkey (remove skin)
- Fish and shellfish (not battered - great for grilling, pan searing, etc.)
- Beef: round, sirloin, chuck arm, loin, and extra-lean ground beef
- Pork: leg, shoulder, tenderloin
