Below is a fun feature on a Girls' Guide to Dating curtsey of The Rebound
Girls’ Guide to Dating

Sandy unfortunately finds herself back on the singles’ market, and having been partnered up for so long finds it difficult to meet a man. This helpful dating guide will offer up some hints and tips for those who are starting over and find themselves back on the market.

Upon discovering her husband’s infidelity, Sandy (Zeta-Jones) and her two kids move from the suburbs to pursue a new life in the big city. There she meets Aram (Bartha), a local coffee shop employee whose wife only married him to get her green card. The two strike up a friendship which eventually evolves into something more. However, it isn’t long before they’re faced with the big question - “Is this real or just a rebound?”

Join a Gym

Sandy meets Aram at a women’s self defense class. If you’re looking to get back out there and into the dating scene, you probably don’t want to try to meet men at a women’s workout class, but instead try going to a co-ed gym or fitness boot camp! There are plenty of quality men out there that you could meet while working out, and it’s a great way of motivating yourself to maintain a healthy lifestyle and stay in shape.

Get Online

If you are actively trying to get out there and date and you AREN’T using an online dating site, you need to be. The stigma that was once attached to online dating is largely a thing of the past as a huge portion of the US now uses online dating as a way to connect with potential partners. Many of these sites also have promising success rates with the sheer amount of matches they’ve made. And who knows? Maybe you’re new Mr. Right is right around that virtual corner!

Replace Kid-Centric Places With Kid-Friendly Places

Many single moms find that it’s difficult to meet men because they’re constantly doing things with their children in kid-oriented places. The playground, the zoo, Chuck E. Cheese – these are not really great places to meet men. However, if you start going to kid-friendly places (like museums, bookstores and farmer’s markets), you’ll have a better shot at meeting a new man, without the difficulties associated with being in a place completely swarmed by loud kids.

Team Up!

If you have children, it is imperative that you are able to have some time sans the kids when you’re dating. A great way to do this is to team up with other parents. You can switch off watching each other’s kids so that everyone has time for themselves (to date, to nap, to do whatever). Any of your existing friends with kids would likely be happy to agree to this arrangement, as it’s a help to them too! And, as much as you love your children, you need some time away for them in order to fulfill your own needs and maintain your happiness. Plus, it’s basically a play date for the kids, so they might not even notice that you’re gone!

Change Your Routine

Many of these tips have had the same kind of theme – do something different! Your life has changed, you’re single now, and you need to make lifestyle adjustments. If you want to meet a new man, you can’t continue doing the same exact things that you’ve been doing, you need to try something new! Join a club that holds monthly meetings (like a professional society, the Audubon Society, a group on MeetUp, etc.) or take a fun class (like cooking, art, etc.), and make a real effort to meet new people and try new things. Not only will you potentially find a date, but you’ll also learn new skills and enrich your life with exciting experiences!
