Easy Christmas Gifts:Gift Cards #GiftCardsRock

Buying gifts can be stressful but it doesn’t have to be. If you’re looking for a gift people really want, pick up a gift card. According to a study by the National Retail Federation, they’re the gift of choice over clothing, consumer electronics and jewelry. In addition, they never have to be returned and are convenient to buy at the grocery store.

When shopping, we want more bang for our buck and quick and convenient options. Gift cards are the perfect gift for anyone - teachers, family members, friends and colleagues. There are so many ways you can save using gift cards while having fun giving and receiving them! By being a savvy shopper, you can reap the rewards when buying gift cards for others, plus you can buy gift cards for your own large purchases for big savings. Check out your local grocery store for details and information on specific promotions.

Social Moms has teamed up with their friends at www.giftcardsrock.com on a fun blogging program asking us mom bloggers to share why we love to give and receive gift cards along with creative tips for giving gift cards to the friends and family.

As the crunch of holidays approach and then the realization hits that I need gifts for x, y and z, I start to panic.  I do not want to be running thru the stores like a crazy woman and fighting lines.  These are the times to be spending evenings at home with the family wrapping gifts, watching Christmas movies, etc.  For these reasons I turn to gift cards.  You honestly can not go wrong with a gift card, the recipient still gets a gift and gets to pick out exactly what they want!

Do you have family far away?   Well the cost of postage gets crazy when mailing gifts.  Sometimes it seems the postage is more than the gift!  Buying gift cards for out of town relatives/friends allows me to spend more money on the gift card rather than the shipping! This way it is win/win  I get to spend the same amount plus a postage stamp and they get the intended amount of the gift!

Preteens and teenagers... yup you know the kind.  The bubble gum smacking, eye rollers who don't like anything you get them.   Pick up an iTunes card or a card to their favorite store and save yourself and your family the drama that could unfold!

Here are a few great ways gift cards can help you:
  • Save at the pump – Consumers can earn significant fuel discounts when buying gift cards in grocery stores nationwide through fuel savings programs.
  • Earn rewards - Many grocery stores offer rewards on your next shopping trip when purchasing gift cards.
  • Save time - one of the most precious savings of all is your time. Gift cards are available at your grocery store offering a one-stop shopping experience with hundreds of top brands all in one place.

Get creative:

  • Make a movie lovers gift basket!   Throw in a rental store gift card or a movie theatre gift card with some candy and popcorn
  • How about a spa basket?   Give the gift of a spa package and wrap the gift card around an eye mask.
  • Date night gifts are perfect for new parents.   Give the gift of a night of babysitting, a restaurant gift card and movie tickets!
  • Going to a party that wants to do a Secret Santa exchange?   I don't care for the random/white elephant gifts at all.  Why not suggest a $10 gift card exchange!  Everyone by a $10 card and throw them in a hat and each person draws one!   This way everyone leaves happy and no one is leaving with a toilet plunger!
  • The possibilities are endless, get creative!!!
