10 Healthy Tips For Back-To-School! #transitionslenses

Back-to-school is almost here, and it’s time to get focused on our kids’ health to get them prepared for the new school year. Social Moms has  teamed up with Transitions Lenses on a new blogging program to asked some mom bloggers to give our top 10 healthy tips to get kids ready for back-to-school.

So here are OneMommaSavingMoney’s top 10 healthy tips to get kids ready for back-to-school:
  1. Head to the pediatrician!   Have your little one checked out; are they up to date on their shots?  Schedule your flu shots too!  Seems like the offices only have a limited number available on a first come first serve basis.
  2.  Eye exams, proper eye care is important.  You don’t want your child sitting there squinting and not being able to see the board, take notes, etc.
  3. Vitamins!!!   Every morning make sure your little ones have their multi-vitamins!  Vitamins are import for the entire family!
  4. Start sending them to bed early a week or so before school starts. Help get them back in the grove of bedtimes and wake up times. We all stay up in the summer and now that school is starting soon, kids need their rest to focus at school!
  5. Bust out the fruit and veggies! If you want your kids to eat well at school, it needs to start at home! We serve fruit and veggies with lunch and dinner and now the kids ask for it as a choice of snack too!  My daughter loves her veggies!
  6.  Teach your child the proper way to cough and sneeze… into the inside of your elbow and NOT your hands!  Germs spread fast!
  7.  Following suit, make sure your kids know the benefits to washing their hands.  The less likely they are to spread germs and stay healthy!
  8. Keep the kids active.  All summer they are outside playing and having fun.  Continue it once school starts, whether it is sports, taking the dog for walk or a family outing!
  9.  Dress the kids properly!   Send them off with a jacket, umbrella, etc.  Always watch the forecast as temps change and you don’t want your little one in the wrong attire!
  10.  Start the morning right.  Breakfast, we all have heard it before, but breakfast is the most important meal of the day!

Transitions Lenses has provided some background info, facts and tips about children’s vision health:
  • An average of one in four children has an undetected vision problem, which can interfere with their ability to read and learn.
  • Proper eyecare and eyewear are critical to performance inside the classroom and in everyday life.
  • Undiagnosed vision problems are one of the major causes of learning difficulties in school-age children, because during their first 12 years, visual learning accounts for 80 percent of the learning process.
When vision problems are undetected, children often have trouble reading or completing their schoolwork. They may exhibit a lack of attention or appear to be fidgety during the school day, which can potentially be misdiagnosed as a learning disability. To learn more about protecting the health and wellness of children’s eyes and to locate an eye doctor near you, visit www.Transitions.com. Since 80 percent of what a child learns is through vision, it’s never too early to begin getting regular, comprehensive eye examinations by an eye doctor. Studies show that 50 percent of vision loss can be prevented with an eye exam.
