Pine cone decorations

Pine cone decorations are made by dipping pine cones into melted wax. These are adorable handmade Christmas decorations using materials that you can find anywhere. I suggest taking the family for a hike to score some pine cones! These are also a great bargain craft! You can use beeswax or crayons!

To make pine cone tree decorations you will need:
Drill
eye screws
broken crayons
cups or bowls to separate crayons
pine cones
glass jars
wax paper
ribbon/twine

  1. Sort and separate the broken crayons into cups or bowls
  2. Drill a hole in the bottom of the pine cone with a drill bit that is the size of the eye screw
  3. Screw an eye screws into the hole of the pine cone
  4. Melt the crayons in a glass jar in the microwave for about 2 minutes.   Stir and then heat again.  Heat time depends on how many crayons you have.  Approximately they melt in about 4 1/2 - 5 minutes.
  5. Jar will be hot as well as the wax!!!!  Use a glove or towel to handle.
  6. Dip pine cone in wax.  If it is not thick enough, then wait a minute and re-dunk.
  7. Lay on wax paper to cool
  8. Cut a length of ribbon or twine to hang pine cone!
Freeze the jar... once cool then you can get the wax loose!
