Dragon Masters - Saving the Sun Dragon #Kindle #Book Review

Disclosure: I received an unedited digital version of this book in exchange for the review. No other compensation was received!

DRAGON MASTERS has it all--dragons, Dragon Stones, a wizard, and even some magic!

This series is part of Scholastic's early chapter book line called Branches, which is aimed at newly independent readers. With easy-to-read text, high-interest content, fast-paced plots, and illustrations on every page, these books will boost reading confidence and stamina. Branches books help readers grow!

In the second book in this fully-illustrated series, Drake and the other three Dragon Masters (Ana, Rori, and Bo) continue their training. But Ana's dragon, Kepri, is sick. The wizard tries to make her feel better, but his potions are not working. Drake's dragon, Worm, must use his special powers to take the Dragon Masters across the world in search of a cure. What made Kepri sick? Will the Dragon Masters be able to save her? And what dangers will they face along the way?

My thoughts:
My son is in the second grade and every night we read at least twenty minutes together.  We decided to tackle this book together, but he did not need my assistance and was soon engrossed in this book all alone.  We never read the first book, but that was not a problem at all.  Within the first chapter the book gives a quick overview of the dragons, their masters and the powers each dragon posses.  We also learn that Drake is the newest Dragon Master, so I am assuming the first book is about how he became one.

There are  four dragons and each dragon has their own master.
Worm:   He is an Earth Dragon. He has a long, body like a snake. He has tiny wings, no legs, and cannot fly.   Drake is his master
Kepri: Is a Sun Dragon. She has shimmering white scales and can shoot light rays from her mouth.  Her master is Ana.
Vulcan:  Is a Fire Dragon whose master is Rori. He’s big, red, and tough, and can breathe fire.
Shu: Is a Water Dragon that is mastered by Bo. She flies by riding the winds and can shoot powerful streams of water. She has blue scales.
We learn in this book that the four dragons we previously stuck in a tunnel that caved in on them, since then Kepri has not been the same.  She has fallen ill and the Wizard Griffith has tried all the potions and magic he knows of to help heal her.  Even though Drake is the newest member of the group and still learning all about dragons, he wants to do his part.  His Dragon has powers, he can sense when something is wrong and now he must use his power to help find a cure for Kepri.  Was is dark magic  that hurt the sun dragon and made her fall ill?  Will Drake and Worm save the day?   I don't want to give away this story, so you will need to pick it up yourself!

This is a great read for dragon fans.  The sentences are not too long, easy works and not at all intimidating book for readers.  The chapters move quickly and with the book under 100 pages, kids feel like it is still a chapter book, but not as scary as some of the bigger ones.  This is perfect for that reluctant boy who is afraid of his reading skills.  I watched my son stumble a few times and then take off and fall in love with this book!   It will be released on November 25th!
